Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore...

Illustration Friday topic- Tales and legends

To me tales and legends are about castles and knights. The dark forest, the dark knight and maybe a killer rabbit.

I love this color palette.

Burns Night

One day a couple of years ago, my husband called me from the train (aww) and said, "Do you know what today is?"

'Tis old Bobby Burns Birthday. And it is that time of year when you raise a glass and toast the most famous and loved Scottish poets.

It is one of the biggest holidays in Scotland. Can you imagine? All that haggis.

O my luve is like a red, red rose is a great poem.

He also penned Auld Lang Syne

(Scots pronunciation)
Shid ald akwentans bee firgot,
an nivir brocht ti mynd?
Shid ald akwentans bee firgot,
an ald lang syn?

Pinky the cast

Emily had her surgery, it's been 2 weeks past now. All of us had trouble sleeping before and after the surgery. Pets, once in your life, there is a fine line between being just an animal and being a family member. I felt bad knowing she had no idea she was about to have major surgery on her knee and the pain she would endure following the operation.

When she was home the next day, it was scary to see her on pain killers. Her normally elegant and thin head was puffy and swollen from the medication. She would stand and stare. Her refusal to eat, left me worried. I opened a can of tuna. Nothing helped. Emily was just feeling rotten from all the meds.

The next day, we stopped all medicine and bought some canned food. Finally she ate.

Now she is doing well. After we took off the very appropriate and girly pink wrapping, I made a leg warmer for her. It's nice to know my sewing has finally payed off and I made something useful.

She had a check-up 3 days ago and Dr. Bob was very pleased. Emily puts some weight on her foot when she walks and there is no fluid in her knee. Good signs.

Embrace the wind...

I realize I just posted an Illustration Friday but here is this weeks, Plain.

I thought of the Great Plains, but this image of the snow and the fence runs clear in my mind.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I have pictures to post of Emily, post op.

Peace and love

Pink moon gonna get you all...

I joined Illustration Friday because, well I need this. I like the idea of Self Portrait Challenge but I have never been a big self portraitist. Never have I been one to explore the way I look, through painting or photos. I feel I know who I am, and it usually it has nothing to do with my looks. Others have different opinions about this and that is totally cool. Look at Egon Schiele.

So Illustration Friday gives a topic for the week, and here is mine. The topic this week is Stitch. and here is Winterbird. She is a real stitched bird as a sort of crafty project.

there go the delicates...

This week I have been hostess for Just Be Connected. Today I posted a challenge and I wanted to share it with all of you too. I thought this might be a nice getting out of the winter blahs project. (or summer blahs in the Southern Hemisphere mate) Think of what your favorite number is and then go out and look for it in the world around you. Take a picture then post it. Come back here and leave a comment, with a link to your post. I would like to collectively put these all together. Go have fun!

There's a river flowing by a willow tree...

Laughter is the sun
that drives winter
from the human face.

Look to the future now it’s only just begun

Emily’s spirits are high. She’s such a happy girl. Her idea of a good walk is if a complete stranger comes over to her and pets her. (This poses a problem for me sometimes.) One Sunday morning I had her on a walk, it was snowing and not many people were out. Emily spotted an older woman going into a bank ATM, and she made sure we walked over to the bank door and waited until the woman came out. I felt bad because I didn't want this woman to think we were going to rob her. The woman came out smiling and telling Emily she was a pretty girl. The woman laughed when I told her my dog wanted to say hi.

I’m not sure of resolutions this year. Mostly I try to eat better and get plenty of exercise. Oh and trying to always finish the books I have started. I did a pretty good job last year.

I found the article below in a wellness magazine and wanted to share. Peace and love and happy new year!
  1. Protect the earth for our children and future generations.
  2. Reduce your meat intake by 50 percent, to lessen deforestation for cattle grazing.
  3. Have one car free day a week.
  4. If you have children, try to work from home at least one day a week, so you can be with them more.
  5. Try to be mindful about how your consumption affects the earth and other people.
